Job Summary

The Assistant Plant Manager will be responsible for providing support to the Plant Manager regarding Quality, Safety & Environmental (ERS), and lean/continuous improvement systems. This position requires daily, hands-on involvement on the shop floor, including frequent quality and safety inspections and audits of operational procedures.  The APM will have primary responsibility for maintaining raw material inventory levels, with specific activities around ordering, receiving and coordination of week and month end cycle counts.  The APM will also provide local support as required to Corporate Transportation and Logisics.  This position will be responsible for updating and maintaining the document control for standard work and TPM, providing facilitation support for A3 responses to injuries, quality issues and continuous improvement events.  The position will be required to coordinate trainings (e.g. forklift, DOT general awareness, monthly safety trainings) and production projects (e.g. creating lead standard work, housekeeping events), and will facilitate problem-solving efforts across the plant. The Plant Manager and General Manager are responsible for ensuring accountability resulting from the Assistant Plant Manager's work.  

  1. Knowledge of when, where, and how to apply lean tools (standard work, TPM, 6S, etc.).
  2. Working knowledge of Kanban systems, inventory management and fulfillment strategies.
  3. Must know and understand OSHA rules and their application to industrial environments
  4. Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and Microsoft AX.
  5. Must be able to design, update and audit plant procedures.
  6. Must be able to design and administer both classroom-style training and TWI-style training.
  7. Must understand, maintain, and improve document control systems effectively
  8. Must be able to demonstrate effective communication skills to all levels of the organization.
  9. Must be able to oversee and facilitate continuous improvement project within the facility.
  10. Must be able to organize, facilitate, and work in cross-functioning teams.
  11. Must be able to occasionally work off-shift as required to support plant goals.
  12. Must be able to read, write, type and speak English.
