We are looking for an Environmental, Regulatory & Safety Technician to support our ERS Manager.  

Job Summary

The primary focus of this position is to assist in ensuring the company's business facilities comply with all applicable environmental, regulatory, worker health, and safety regulations.  This includes eliminating or controlling hazardous conditions presented by human error, equipment, and/or machine operation,  which may lead to injury or property and product damage. Assisting in initiating improvements company-wide, requiring the development or enhanced replacement of target ERS objectives, programs, policies, and projects.  

Essential Functions/Accountabilities: This position is accountable for, but not limited to the following:

  1. Assist in the identification, analysis, and control of occupational hazards by applying engineering knowledge, skill, and abilities.
  2. Assist in performing incident investigations and identifying root causes
  3. Coordinate and audit plant incident investigations. This includes leading audit teams in:
    1. identifying pre-injury/ near miss/ potential contributory trends,
    2. ensuring safety/health inclusive work standards, and
    3. perform follow up and sustainment of corrective actions.
  4. Responsible for the interpretation of federal, state, and municipal laws & regulations as they apply to environmental, safety and health in the steel manufacturing and recycling industries.
  5. Ensure compliance with all appropriate environmental, worker health, and safety regulations; including all regulatory reporting requirements.
  6. Assist in preparing major site-specific environmental & safety reports, correspondence, and permit applications. Ensure through audits that required day-to-day and monthly reporting is being conducted at the plant level.

Knowledge & Skill Requirements

  1. Knowledge of Oregon and California ERS regulations & requirements as they pertain to a manufacturing environment.
  2. Strong computer skills, demonstrating computer literacy in PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and other programs which may be required to perform essential ERS functions.
  3. Demonstrates initiative, with well-developed interpersonal abilities necessary to work with all levels of a manufacturing organization, strong oral & written communication skills, and an ability to work in a strong team-oriented environment.
  4. Ability to communicate necessary environmental, health and safety requirements to team members of all educational levels and assist in the development of tools to facilitate the deployment of ERS initiatives.
  5. Exposure to accident investigation and root cause analysis.
  6. Assist in providing leadership and management oversight of company ERS.
  7. Exposure to lean methods, principles, and tools.
  8. Must be well organized, with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  9. Must be able to travel

Education and Experience: 

  • AA degree in Environmental Sciences, or equivalency or relevant experience, knowledge, and skills.
  • Minimum 2 years experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Technical knowledge of lean or similarly renowned efficiency and problem-solving methodologies, principles, tools, and techniques (Six Sigma, Toyota Production System, etc.). helpful.
