In 2007, the Stavig brothers acquired Myers Container and Container Management Services, the fourth generation of the family-owned business dating back to 1917.  General Steel Drum of Charlotte, North Carolina was acquired by the Stavigs in February of 2011 and continues to operate independently under its own name and entity.  In September 2018, the Stavigs added North Coast Container in Ohio, also operating under its own name. Collectively, the companies are all brands of Stavig Group.

We are currently seeking a qualified Maintenance Mechanic for our Container Management Services facility in NW Portland. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

  • Perform all work in a safe manner following company policies and OSHA regulations
  • Perform Preventative Maintenance tasks in accordance with PM procedures
  • Troubleshoot machinery, determine and implement corrective actions
  • Order parts as needed, manage inventory levels and keep supply storage areas clean and organized
  • Remove, modify and replacement of machine components as needed
  • Perform welding (includes ARC, MIG)
  • Torch cutting
  • Knowledge in metal fabrication
  • Familiar with pipe fittings
  • Able to operate machinery and build knowledge of machine functionality
  • Knowledge of electrical functions and able to apply to assignments
  • Must work with other maintenance team-members & operators to complete daily action items
  • Working knowledge of hydraulics and pneumatics
  • Assist in planning, documentation, and execution of projects

Other Duties include but are not limited to the following:

  • Perform electrical work (frequent)
  • Operation of machines (infrequent)
  • Attend all plant meetings, training, and other activities as specified by management.

Physical Requirements:

  • Stooping/Crouching required to bend forward by bending at the waist or by bending legs and spine (frequent).
  • Crawling required to work in a confined space to crawl and move about on hands and knees (infrequent).
  • Speaking expressing ideas frequently to employees and vendors (frequent).
  • Listening Capable of listening and following instructions (frequent).

 Mental Requirements:

  • General Intelligence the ability to learn and comprehend basic instructions and orientation to the job (constant).
  • Verbal Intelligence the ability to understand the meaning of words and to respond effectively (frequent).
  • Numerical Intelligence the ability to perform basic arithmetic accurately (frequent).
  • Writing Skills the ability to write both words and numbers to express ideas and/or results (frequent).
  • Motor Coordination Skills the ability to coordinate the eyes, hands, and fingers rapidly, accurately and handle precise movements (frequent).

 Work Environment:

  • Noise Exposed to loud noise inside the plant. Required to wear earplugs at all times.
  • Heat Exposed to high temperatures during the summer months.
  • Injury Exposure Exposure to atmospheric and mechanical hazards.
  • Very little exposure to outside weather.
